Pairings Announced For 2017 PCL Girls' & Boys' Soccer Championships
PHILADELPHIA, PA - Archbishop Ryan and La Salle College are the top seeds for the 2017 Philadelphia Catholic League Girls' and Boys' Soccer Championships.
Seeking its second league title in three seasons, Archbishop Ryan finished the regular season tied with Lansdale Catholic atop the girls' standings with identical 10-0-1 records, but Archbishop Ryan earned the top seed by virtue of the league's tie-breaker procedures. The Ragdolls are led by Kaitlyn Findlay and Gianna Costanzo, while LC senior Kate Henesey recently tallied her 100th career goal.
With a record of 8-2-1 in PCL action, St. Huberts garnered the third overall seed, while defending champion Archbishop Wood (8-3), Cardinal O'Hara (5-3-3) and Conwell-Egan (5-4-2) earned first round byes.
The 2017 Girls' Championship commences on Monday, Oct. 16, as seventh-seeded Archbishop Carroll (5-5-1) hosts No. 10 Bonner & Prendie (1-9-1), while ninth-seeded John W. Hallahan (3-7-1) visits No. 8 Little Flower (4-7). The quarterfinals will be held on Thursday, Oct. 19, while the semifinals will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the UGH Soccer Club in Feasterville-Trevose. The title match will take place at Northeast High School at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29.
Led by goalkeeper Brett Werner, defending champion La Salle College earned the top seed for the 2017 Boys' Soccer Championship with a 10-0-1 record while yielding just three goals in PCL play. 2015 champion Roman (10-1) is the No. 2 overall seed, while Archbishop Wood (9-2), St. Joseph's Prep (5-3-3), Archbishop Ryan (5-4-2) and Father Judge (4-6-1) garnered opening round byes.
First round action for the Boys' Championship will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 17, as No. 9 Archbishop Carroll visits eighth-seeded Lansdale Catholic, while seventh-seeded Bonner & Prendie hosts No. 10 Cardinal O'Hara. The quarterfinals will be held on Friday, Oct. 20, while the semifinals will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 25, at the UGH Soccer Club in Feasterville-Trevose. The title match will take place at Northeast High School at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 29.
